HELENA, Mont. — At 98 years old, Montana native Jack Kindelman continues to inspire with a lifetime of service, dedication, and community involvement. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, Kindelman was recognized at the Montana State Capitol this week for his contributions to the state and nation.

Born and raised in Roundup, Montana, Kindelman first enlisted in the military at age 17 during World War II. He later re-enlisted during the Korean War, where he was honored for his bravery in rescuing dozens of civilians fleeing conflict. His military service is just one chapter in a life marked by quiet heroism.

Following his time in uniform, Kindelman devoted himself to supporting others. He has volunteered over 10,000 hours at a hospital in Billings and spent years working with homeless veterans through the local Veterans Hall.

During his visit to the Capitol, Kindelman was welcomed on the Senate Floor by Senator Mike Yakawich, R-Billings, who praised him as “our Montana State treasure.” Kindelman was joined by his daughters, Jaci and Mary, for the occasion.

“We all have those heroes and heroines in our life,” said Senator Yakawich. “Mr. President, beloved body, my hero, your hero, our Montana State treasure, Mr. Jack Kindelman.”

Throughout the day, Kindelman also met with Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen and Lt. Governor Kristen Juras. Secretary Jacobsen described their conversation — which touched on Montana’s business landscape, energy, and community life — as insightful and inspiring.

“Having experienced so many decades and historical moments, Mr. Kindelman offers a rare and valuable perspective,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “We’re grateful for his service and for the continued example he sets for all Montanans.”

Kindelman has also been recognized at the national level, including remarks honoring him on the U.S. House Floor by former Representative Matt Rosendale in 2023.

From the battlefield to the hospital halls, Jack Kindelman’s legacy of service continues to resonate across Montana and beyond.
