Missoula, MT — Missoula County’s Elections Office began mailing approximately 75,000 ballots today for the upcoming school and special district elections scheduled for May 6. The county is running this election as a mail-only election and polling places will not be open on Election Day.

“We’d like to remind voters that there’s a tight turnaround from when you receive your ballot to when it’s due back at the Elections Center,” said Elections Administrator Bradley Seaman. Voters are advised to mail their ballots early using the prepaid envelope provided, or hand-deliver them to one of many designated drop-off locations available on Election Day around the county.

Last month, Missoula County cancelled the races of several elections as these races were unopposed, electing the individual candidates by acclamation.

Several positions remain unfilled, and the County Commissioners are seeking applicants to fill these vacancies. Open positions will become vacant on May 31, and residents who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply. All board and council positions are volunteer roles.

The Elections Office emphasized the importance of using myvoterpagemt.com to check voter registration status and view sample ballots to ensure readiness for the election. Ballots must be received by the Elections Office by 8 p.m. on May 6. While return postage is prepaid and no stamp is needed, mailing by April 29 is recommended by the USPS to ensure delivery. After this date, voters should hand-deliver their ballots.

Election Day drop-off sites will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and a full list of these sites is available on the election website and printed on the mail-ballot instructions. For those needing to register late, in-person registration is mandatory and available at the Elections Office – Building B at 140 N. Russell St., up until noon on May 5, resuming again from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

This election includes candidacies and funding levies for several school and special districts, including fire and public hospital districts. Specific ballot issues and candidates are detailed based on residents’ registered voting districts.
