HELENA, MT — Miles City fifth grader Jordyn Muggli has been named the winner of the fourth annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Poster Contest, Attorney General Austin Knudsen announced Friday, coinciding with National Police Week.
Muggli, a student at Lincoln Grade School, was recognized for her artistic interpretation of the support shown to Montana law enforcement. In her artist statement, she expressed gratitude for law enforcement, stating, “We know that the highway patrol and police are always there to protect us [no] matter what :).”
“Montana is a state that ‘Backs the Blue’ and this contest is a great way to instill that mentality in children at a young age,” said Knudsen. “I know that law enforcement officers appreciate the support they receive from the community, especially from Montana’s youngest citizens. Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest, and I can’t wait to visit Miles City and celebrate with this year’s winner.”
Jordyn’s poster was selected from a pool of over 175 submissions from 35 classrooms across Montana. Her artwork will be displayed in the Montana Department of Justice offices statewide and shared with law enforcement offices across the state.
Attorney General Knudsen, along with Montana Highway Patrol Colonel Kurt Sager, plans to visit Miles City later this month to celebrate with Jordyn and her class, which will receive a $750 award from Stockman Bank to commemorate this achievement.
In addition to Jordyn’s statewide recognition, six regional winners were announced and honored with a $250 prize from Stockman Bank. Each regional winner will also be treated to an ice cream social delivered by local troopers. The regional winners are:
- District One: Harley Hausmann, Corvallis
- District Two: Gabriel Oliver, Great Falls
- District Three: Jaxson Richards, Helena
- District Four: Jennessa Cantrell, Billings
- District Six: Briggs Bollweg, Whitefish
- District Seven: Lila Clawson, Belgrade
The contest, announced in February by Attorney General Knudsen, invited elementary school students to showcase their appreciation for Montana’s law enforcement officers, who dedicate their lives to ensuring community safety.
For more details about the contest and to view the winning poster, additional information is available via the Montana Department of Justice website.
National Police Week serves as an annual event to honor law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to recognize the service and sacrifice of all officers. Through creative initiatives like the poster contest, the importance of community support for law enforcement is highlighted, especially among the state’s younger generations.
