GREAT FALLS – A Honduran man who entered the country illegally was sentenced Monday to time served and turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced.
Enys Jose Rosales-Lara, 39, pleaded guilty in May to one count of illegal reentry. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris sentenced him to 74 days in prison, which he had already served while awaiting trial.
According to court documents, Rosales-Lara was apprehended during a traffic stop in Havre on April 23. He was riding in the back seat of a vehicle when law enforcement conducted the stop.
When questioned, Rosales-Lara presented investigators with a Honduran identification card but had no other documentation. He admitted to entering the United States most recently on Sept. 17, 2023, near El Paso, Texas, and acknowledged he had no legal right to remain in the country.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and Havre Police Department.
The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative that marshals federal resources to combat illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
