MISSOULA — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are asking for the public’s help in solving a series of vandalism incidents that have disrupted services at Milltown State Park, located just east of Missoula.
Public toilets at the state park were vandalized with fireworks on three separate nights — July 1, 4 and 7, 2025 — prompting park officials to reduce restroom hours significantly. All Milltown State Park bathrooms will now only be open during daytime hours Thursday through Sunday until further notice.
“Crimes like this one are often solved because of leads from the public,” game wardens said in a news release Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact Warden Chris Hamilton at 406-210-7513 or Warden Brady Rhoda at 406-481-5826. Tips can also be submitted online at tipmont.mt.gov, where visitors can find information about reporting natural resource crimes and local contacts.
Those who provide information leading to resolution may be eligible for a reward, according to FWP.
FWP officials described the vandalism as having a “significant impact” on the facilities, necessitating the operational changes while authorities investigate the incidents.
The change represents a significant reduction in public access to facilities at the popular recreation area along the Clark Fork River for floaters and other park visitors.
The vandalism occurred during the busy Fourth of July week, when many Montana state parks see increased visitation from holiday travelers and local residents.
