MISSOULA — Currents Aquatics Center will close for two weeks starting Saturday for annual maintenance, directing swimmers to Splash Montana as the city’s alternative aquatic facility during the shutdown.

The popular indoor pool facility will be closed from August 16 through August 29 for what the City of Missoula describes as annual maintenance, updates and deep cleaning. The closure affects one of Missoula’s primary year-round swimming facilities during the final weeks of summer.

“Currents passes and punch cards are accepted at Splash Montana during the closure,” according to the city’s announcement Tuesday.

Splash Montana will maintain its regular summer schedule through August 26, operating weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., with weekend hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The outdoor facility will then transition to limited operations from August 27 through September 1, offering only lap swimming from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Currents will reopen Saturday, August 30, with modified hours featuring recreation swimming from noon to 6 p.m. and lap swimming beginning at 8 a.m.

The closure comes during peak summer usage when families and competitive swimmers rely heavily on pool access. However, the city has coordinated the maintenance period to overlap with Splash Montana’s final week of full summer operations.

Labor Day schedules will see both facilities operating with reduced programming. Currents will be open from noon to 6 p.m. for both recreational and lap swimming, though water aerobics classes will be suspended for the holiday. Splash Montana will offer adult lap swimming only from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Despite the facility closure, Parks and Recreation administrative offices and the registration desk will remain open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the maintenance period.

The annual closure allows maintenance crews to perform deep cleaning and facility updates that cannot be completed while the pool remains operational. The timing coincides with the seasonal transition as outdoor swimming options become less available and indoor facilities prepare for increased fall and winter usage.
