BILLINGS — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are seeking public assistance to identify vandals who caused extensive damage at Lake Elmo State Park on the evening of August 11.

The vandals used a large rock to destroy a toilet in the pavilion women’s restroom and threw wet balls of toilet paper throughout the facility. Additionally, 17 sprinkler heads were destroyed on the lawn at the FWP office and near the pavilion.

“Theft of and vandalism to state property is a crime that can result in fines and criminal punishment,” FWP stated in a press release.

Game wardens are offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the identification of the suspect or suspects involved in the incident.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is encouraged to report tips online at tipmont.mt.gov or contact Billings area game warden Skyler Mitchell at 406-850-2336.

Lake Elmo State Park, located near Billings, provides recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, and camping for thousands of Montana residents and visitors annually. The park’s facilities require ongoing maintenance funded by park fees and state resources.

The investigation remains active as FWP continues to seek information from the public about this incident of property destruction at the popular recreation area.
