STEVENSVILLE — Anglers and boaters using the popular John & Nancy Owen Fishing Access Site on the Bitterroot River should prepare for construction-related congestion and limited parking through the end of October.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced that improvement work began earlier this month at the fishing access site near Stevensville. While the site remains open during construction, visitors will encounter construction equipment and reduced parking availability.
“The site will be congested with construction equipment, and parking may be more limited,” according to the FWP announcement. “Visitors should park away from the construction area.”
The construction project will expand amenities at the popular river access point, including a larger designated parking area for vehicles and boat trailers, the site’s first restroom facility, and a small camping area.
The timing coincides with prime fall fishing season on the Bitterroot River, when many anglers target trout in cooler weather conditions. The access site provides one of the key public entry points to this section of the river.
Construction work is expected to continue through the end of October, with access to the fishing area remaining available throughout the project period.
