BELGRADE — Rivian opened Montana’s first electric vehicle service center Monday, marking what Governor Greg Gianforte called the state’s entry into the EV manufacturing sector.
The electric vehicle company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its 20,000-square-foot Belgrade facility, which will provide service, parts and test drives for Rivian owners across the region. According to the Governor’s press release, the facility was described as a “manufacturing facility,” though company representatives focused on service and demonstration capabilities.
“It’s great to welcome Rivian to Montana as the first electric vehicle manufacturer to invest in our state,” Gianforte said at the ceremony. “This grand opening isn’t just about a new building, it’s about opening the door to more good-paying jobs for Montanans and embracing innovation right here in Belgrade.”
Rivian, founded in 2009 and now based in Southern California, operates nearly 60 service centers across North America. The company produces electric trucks, SUVs and commercial vans.
“We chose this site because of the region’s thriving economy, its proximity to the airport, and its natural alignment with our brand’s mission to help people explore the world in a way that protects our future,” said Aubrey Coleman, Rivian State Affairs & Business Development Advisor. “As our owner community in Montana continues to grow, we’ve long wanted to provide a dedicated, local space for them, and with everyone’s help here today, we have now accomplished this.”
The Belgrade location will serve Rivian owners who previously had to travel out-of-state for service and provide test drives for potential customers considering electric vehicles.
Senator Tim Sheehy joined Gianforte for the ribbon cutting, emphasizing Montana’s growing appeal to businesses.
“We have an economic renaissance going on in Montana – companies with great technology and opportunity are coming here to create good-paying jobs so our kids can grow up to stay here and work here,” Sheehy said.
Rivian joins a growing list of companies investing in Montana facilities. Amazon recently announced a $27 million investment in its Belgrade operational facility, while EquipmentShare opened an $81 million construction equipment facility in Helena last month.
The service center represents Montana’s first dedicated electric vehicle facility, arriving as the state works to build infrastructure supporting electric vehicle adoption across its vast rural landscape.
