HELENA — The Montana Motor Vehicle Division is accepting grant applications from nonprofits that help chronically ill children, with a November 10 deadline for organizations seeking funding from the state’s Chrome for Kids Wish Fund.

The specialized fund generates money through a $20 donation fee collected when Montana residents register motorcycles or quadricycles. Created by the Montana Legislature in 2003, the Chrome for Kids Wish Fund provides financial support for programs that make lasting impacts on children’s lives.

“Thanks to the Chrome for Kids Wish Fund we are able to support organizations that are working everyday to make children’s dreams come true,” MVD Administrator Laurie Bakri said. “It’s really wonderful to know that we can be a part of something that reaches beyond the business of motor vehicles.”

Past recipients of Chrome for Kids grants include Make-A-Wish and the Montana Hope Project, demonstrating the fund’s reach across different types of children’s assistance organizations.

Application Requirements

To qualify for consideration, Montana-based nonprofits must submit:

  • An overview of the nonprofit organization
  • A letter of interest specifying the amount requested and intended use of funds
  • Tax documentation proving 501(c)(3) status
  • List of board members

Applications must be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line “Chrome for Kids application.” Grant winners will be announced in early December.

The Chrome for Kids Wish Fund represents Montana’s unique approach to supporting children’s charitable programs by connecting vehicle registration fees with wish-granting organizations. Qualified nonprofits dedicated to helping chronically or seriously ill children are encouraged to apply before the November 10 deadline.
