STEVENSVILLE — The second annual Ravalli County diaper drive launches this month, with Light of the Valley Church serving as the collection site for donations benefiting Bitterroot Mommy & Me families.

The drive will collect diapers of all sizes, baby wipes, and diaper rash creams at Light of the Valley Church on North Kootenai Creek Road from October 1-31.

Bitterroot Mommy & Me opened in February 2025 to fill a service gap left after Birthright closed in December 2021. The pregnancy resource center provides support, education, and essential services to mothers and babies in the Bitterroot Valley.

The diaper drive addresses a critical gap in government assistance programs, which do not cover the cost of diapers. This leaves many families facing difficult choices between purchasing diapers and buying food.

“Many families have to choose between diapers and food,” organizers stated in announcing the drive.

Robin Sertell, Chair of Montanans for Life & ProLife Bitterroot, previously highlighted the need for such services when the center opened earlier this year. “Since Birthright closed in December of 2021, I’ve noticed moms on local Facebook groups saying things like, ‘I’m pregnant, and don’t have the things I need. I can’t get up to Missoula…I guess I’ve got some hard choices to make,'” Sertell said.

All donated items will benefit families served by Bitterroot Mommy & Me, which operates as a collaborative effort involving various churches and volunteers throughout the community.

The center has partnered with EveryLife to provide high-quality diapers and wipes for local families. According to the organization, a donation of $49.99 can provide a month’s worth of diapers and wipes for a family in need.

Drop-off donations are accepted at Light of the Valley Church, located at 103 N. Kootenai Creek Road in Stevensville. Families interested in learning more about the drive or the organization’s services can contact Bitterroot Mommy & Me at [email protected].

The diaper drive comes as communities nationwide recognize the challenge many families face in affording basic infant care supplies, with diapers typically costing families $70-80 per month per child.
