HAMILTON — A Bitterroot Valley pregnancy resource center is hosting free diaper giveaways across four western Montana locations this month to help families struggling with economic pressures during the holiday season.
Bitterroot Mommy & Me will distribute free diapers, wipes, and diaper cream at events in Darby, Hamilton, Missoula, and Florence from November 15 through December 6. The giveaways come as families face what organizers describe as a “trifecta” of financial challenges: SNAP benefits being on hold, high inflation, and rising property taxes.
“The holidays may be particularly difficult this year for many people,” according to the organization’s announcement. “Families are feeling the crunch caused by the trifecta of SNAP benefits being on hold, incredibly high levels of inflation, and skyrocketing property taxes.”
The events will provide diapers up to size 5T, wipes, and diaper cream while supplies last, with all families welcome to attend.
Event Schedule:
- Darby: Friday, November 15, 2-4 p.m. at Crosswalk Community Center on Missoula Avenue and Highway 93
- Hamilton: Saturday, November 23, 2-4 p.m. at Bitterroot Mommy & Me, 1965 N. 1st Street
- Missoula: Saturday, November 30, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at 610 N. California Avenue (across from Blue Mountain Clinic)
- Florence: Friday, December 6, 2-4 p.m. at Florence Fire Hall, 234 Holloway Lane
The Hamilton location represents a significant milestone for the organization, which now operates from a permanent facility after initially opening in a temporary location in Corvallis earlier this year.
Bitterroot Mommy & Me launched in February 2025 to fill a service gap in the Bitterroot Valley after Birthright closed in 2021. The pregnancy resource center has been actively serving local families, including hosting a diaper drive in September to collect supplies for families in need.
“Since Birthright closed in December of 2021, I’ve noticed moms on local Facebook groups saying things like, ‘I’m pregnant, and don’t have the things I need. I can’t get up to Missoula…I guess I’ve got some hard choices to make,'” Robin Sertell, Chair of Montanans for Life & ProLife Bitterroot, said when the center opened. “Bitterroot Mommy & Me is here to fulfill those needs.”
Beyond the diaper giveaways, the center provides free baby and maternity items year-round, along with options counseling and healing services for those who have experienced pregnancy loss. The organization operates through partnerships with local churches and community volunteers.
Families seeking more information about the giveaway events or the center’s ongoing services can call Bitterroot Mommy & Me at (406) 530-8383.
