HAMILTON, Mont. – The 2025 open burning season in Ravalli County officially began on March 1 and will continue through November 30. County officials are reminding residents to comply with regulations to ensure safety and environmental responsibility.
Residents who have previously obtained a Ravalli County Burn Permit are encouraged to renew their existing permit rather than obtaining a new one. Permits can be used from year to year, and renewing existing permits helps the county maintain a free burn permit program. Those who have never obtained a permit must secure one for the 2025 season before conducting any burns.
Key Requirements:
- Burn Permit Required: Residents must obtain a valid Ravalli County Burn Permit before conducting any outdoor burns. Permits can be obtained, renewed, or activated online or in person at the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1–4 p.m.).
- Daily Activation: Burn permits must be activated each day a burn is planned. Activation can be completed online or by phone at 1-866-212-6318.
- Safety Precautions: A water source must be readily available at all burn sites to help control potential flare-ups.
- Prohibited Materials: The burning of garbage and other restricted materials is strictly prohibited.
For additional details, visit the Ravalli County website or contact the Sheriff’s Office at (406) 375-4060. Residents without internet access can obtain assistance at local libraries or from their local fire department.
Officials urge all residents to follow these guidelines to reduce fire risks and ensure compliance with county regulations.
