BOZEMAN, Mont. – In a heartfelt ceremony, Governor Greg Gianforte honored James Washburn and JD Douglas, two employees of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, with the Outstanding Service Award for their actions during a fatal car accident near Townsend last month.

“A true public servant steps up in a time of need, and that’s exactly what these outstanding Montanans did,” expressed Governor Gianforte. He further praised their “quick thinking and selfless actions in the face of tragedy,” underscoring their embodiment of Montana’s spirited community care.

James Washburn, a Block Management Technician, emerged as first responder, immediately rendering medical assistance to accident victims. JD Douglas, Assistant Warden Chief, soon joined and strategically managed the scene, ensuring effective emergency response. This coordinated effort was crucial in a dire, time-sensitive situation.

The Outstanding Service Award, initiated by Governor Gianforte in 2021, celebrates state employees who exemplify extraordinary commitment to public service. Nominations can be submitted by peers, acknowledging their dedication and impact.
