Missoula, MT — Project Community Connect (PCC) is returning April 11, from 10am to 3pm at the Missoula Public Library. The annual event facilitates access to a wide array of free services in one centralized location by bringing together over 60 community and non-profit organizations.
Among the services offered are health care including medical and dental, mental health support, legal and employment assistance, and basic needs such as haircuts and ID processing. The event’s purpose is to ease the typically lengthy process required to access essential services, condensing it into a single day.
Slaven Lee, the library’s director, highlighted the impact of PCC, describing it as an event that builds hope and provides dignity, “PCC exemplifies service excellence through its holistic and person-centered approach, ensuring attendees are met with dignity, respect and a welcoming environment.”
The relevance of this initiative is underscored by ongoing discussions regarding homelessness in Missoula, especially following the recent closure of the Johnson Street Shelter. Critics argue that while such events provide temporary relief, they underscore the need for more sustainable solutions to tackle homelessness, rather than solely relying on emergency measures and a sprawling network of non-profits.
Prior to the main event, a breakfast hosted by Missoula First United Methodist Church and Food Not Bombs will be available from 8am to 10am. Those interested in volunteering or more information can visit Missoula Public Library’s website.
