HELENA, Mont. — As the April 15 deadline approaches, Montanans are encouraged to consider two property tax relief programs offering substantial financial benefits for qualified homeowners and veterans facing fiscal constraints.
“Property taxes are too high, and homeowners deserve relief,” Gov. Gianforte stated, urging those eligible to apply before the deadline. “As we continue to work with the legislature to secure meaningful, permanent property tax relief, I encourage Montanans to take advantage of these programs.”
The Property Tax Assistance Program (PTAP) and the Montana Disabled Veterans (MDV) Property Tax Assistance Program reduce tax rates by 30, 50, or 80% on the first $350,000 of a property’s market value. Following legislative efforts in 2023, eligibility was broadened to include properties valued up to $350,000.
Governor Gianforte’s said his administration has lowered property taxes for Montanans, implementing $120 million in long-term relief and providing tax rebates over 2023 and 2024. The Governor’s Property Tax Task Force has recommended the Homestead Rate Cut for the 2025 Legislative Session, which could reduce property taxes by 15% for homeowners and 18% for small businesses.
